Effects of a vertebrate hypocholesterolemic agent on sterol metabolism and development of Bombyx mori.

چکیده
phagous and certain omnivorous species obtain their essential C27 sterols through dealkylation of dietary C28 and C29 phytosterols. The mechanism of this dealkylation reaction in insects is an important but little understood biochemical problem. In the silkworm Bombyx mori, ƒÀ-sitosterol, which is the principal sterol in its diet, Morus (mulberry) leaves, is converted into cholesterol,1) but nothing is known of the intermediate reactions. In order to elucidate the pathways of phytosterol metabolism in insects, certain hypocholesterolemic agents which show inhibitive effects on sterol metabolism in insects and vertebrates have been previously used to bring about accumulation of metabolic intermediates.2) In the

The silk proteins, sericin and fibroin in silkworm, Bombyx mori Linn., - a review
The domesticated silkworm, Bombyx mori Linn., a lepidopteran molecular model and an important economic insect that are emerging as an ideal molecular genetic resource for solving a broad range of biological problems. The silkworm, B. mori produces massive amount of silk proteins during the final stage of larval development. These proteins are stored in the middle silk gland and they are dischar...
متن کاملSynergetic Effects of Potassium and Magnesium Chloride on Biochemical Contents of the Silkworm, Bombyx mori L.
The present study deals with the oral supplementation with (50, 100 and 150 ?g/ml) synergetic effect of potassium and magnesium chloride on the fat body glycogen, protein, total lipids and haemolymph trehalose, protein of fifth instar larvae of Bombyx mori L (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae). The observed parameters significantly increased in all the treated groups when compared with those of the corre...
متن کاملThe Effects of Potassium Bromide on Biochemical Contents of the Fat Body and Haemolymph of Crossbreed Races of the Silkworm, Bombyx mori L.
Oral supplementation with potassium bromide (10, 20 and 40 ?g/ml) to fifth instar larvae of CSR2, CSR4 and CSR2xCSR4 crossbreed races of the silkworm, Bombyx mori resulted in a significant increase in the fat body glycogen in all the treated groups and in all the three races of the silkworm, B. mori. The fat body protein content was increased with 20 and 40 ?g/ml treated groups in CSR2 and CSR4...
متن کاملInfluence of Moisture Content of Mulberry Leaf on Growth and Silk Production in Bombyx mori L.
The influence of moisture content of mulberry leaf on the growth, development and moisture build up in the body of silkworm was studied by feeding with different maturity leaves to late age of silkworm larvae. Significantly higher larval moisture (79.78%), larval weight (65.65 g), pupal moisture (73.81%) was recorded in top tender leaf (high moisture) fed batches and least was recorded in the c...
متن کاملEffect of 12-hours delay and anticipation from traditional practice in silkworm mounting to spinning frames on economic traits of Bombyx mori (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae) cocoons
In this study, the aim was to determine the effect of 12 hours delay and time advancement of Bombyx mori larvae transfer to spinning frames on the economic traits of harvested cocoons. Our experience focused on the transfer of three lots of silkworm mature larvae to cocoon frames with 12 hours delay or advancement from usual spinning time. Commercial silkworm eggs were obtained and thr...
